Is Sin Still Relevant?

The word sin is archaic. It’s unpopular even in many churches. Let’s talk about dysfunction. Let’s talk about brokenness. Maybe even “evil.”

But sin today has a touch of angels-demons histrionics. Although spiritual warfare is real and ongoing, sin has an ordinariness, perhaps even boringness, to its reality. As Tim Keller illuminates in his posthumous book generated from a sermon series, sin is what generates dysfunction, brokenness, and evil. We just need the Bible’s keen eye to see it and call it what it is.

I have been enormously blessed by Keller’s ministry and so grateful for this opportunity to write about his work for ByFaith!

Read the review here.

ByFaith has also printed a booklet of articles explaining Calvinism for the next generation, including mine on “Limited Atonement in an Age of Shamelessness.” It’s a great resource to have handy for any reformed church.

    Justin,
Thank you for the compelling book review of What Is Wrong With the World? by T. Keller. Your well written and engaging summary made be most I’m eager to read the book!

  • Hi Justin,
Important subject. Very much like your commentary on Tim Keller’s book. The modern way is to separate the sinner from the sin. When I was young in Scotland we did not have ACHD or bi-polar, or schisto, we just had bad rascals…I was one of these. There was a recognition that it was bad people that did the sins!!
So thanks for shedding light on this and thanks that Jesus saves the sinner and forgives the sin.
